The Jerry Greenspan
Student "Voice of Mental Health" Award


The Jerry Greenspan Student “Voice of Mental Health” Award was established in 2008 to honor a college or university student who has made a significant contribution in the area of suicide prevention or mental health promotion at his/her school. The student’s achievements should include raising awareness, reducing stigma or promoting help-seeking by:

  • Creating and/or leading campus programs or events,
  • Sharing his/her personal story publicly (through presentations, articles, art, film, music, etc.)
  • Working to improve campus policies, programs and services

The student selected for this award will receive a $2,000 scholarship and be recognized through The Jed Foundation’s website and events.  Students can nominate themselves for the award or be nominated by a peer or campus professional.

To apply or nominate someone for the award, please submit an explanation (500 word maximum) of why you or your nominee deserves this award, making sure to include: 

  • Description of the activities/achievements (including any information on impact, number of students reached, etc.)
  • School name
  • Year
  • Contact information

We will also accept video submissions that capture this information.

The winner and recipient of the $2,000 scholarship will be selected by a panel of staff and advisors of The Jed Foundation.
